A New Musical Director for Lancaster Singers!
We are excited to announce our new musical director: Nathan Smith.
Nathan is an orchestral and choral conductor based in the North West of England. He is thrilled to have been appointed the new Musical Director of the Lancaster Singers and also serves as Conductor of Burnley Orchestra, Artistic Director and founder of Occento Choir, and Musical Director of the LGN Community Choir in Newton-Le-Willows.
Currently, he is studying privately with Sian Edwards. Nathan has also assisted Helen Harrison at Blackpool Symphony Orchestra and, more recently, Preston Opera.
Additionally, Nathan is a répétiteur at Preston Opera and has accompanied productions with Savoynet and Peak Opera at Buxton Opera House.
He studied music at Durham University, graduating with First-Class honours. In his final year, he conducted *Elijah* in Durham Cathedral and won multiple awards, including ‘Best Musical Director,’ ‘Best Concert,’ and a lifetime achievement award for services to music at Durham University.
In 2022, Nathan completed a research MA on the later romantic style of Sir Arthur Sullivan, which drew the following comment: “There is little doubt that this work will contribute considerably to the ongoing rehabilitation of Sullivan’s operas.”
